Features

This list includes the absence of rear side windows, the presence of a special partition that separates the passenger compartment from the cargo compartment, as well as the height of the increased body. Sometimes, vans include station wagon and hatchback bodies, deprived of rear side windows and specially created for the transportation of various small-sized cargo.
Classification

There is a division of all vans into 3 categories, which depends on the purpose:

  • Special – are necessary for transporting all kinds of equipment;
  • Specialized – are created for transportation of a particular type of cargo. This includes refrigerators, furniture vans, isothermal vehicles, etc.
  • Universal – these are vehicles of general specialization. This subtype includes cargo-passenger vans with a separate passenger compartment, which is located behind the driver’s cabin.

In addition, vans are also divided into several types:

All-metal low- or medium-duty van – it can have a cabover, short-cabover or bonneted layout. A characteristic feature is the presence of a driver’s cab, which is not separated from the body. This category also includes half-bonneted models with a sliding driver’s door and aluminum body panels. They are common in Japan and North America as mail and delivery vans. In addition, the van in this category can be equipped with a roof not only in the basic height, but also increased. And it is often unified with combis and vans.

Created on the basis of a station wagon with a load-bearing body – its difference with the station wagon is the absence of upholstery in the back of the cabin and the rear couch. The roof height can be standard or extended.

Box van – it has a separate cabin from the body, and it is created on the basis of a frame truck.
